Current

At the AGM on the 10th January most of the current officers were re-elected. The changes were that Roland Brooke relinquished the position of Welfare Officer and took up the vacant position of Vice Chairman. Ian Marshall took over from Jack Yates Minute Secretary as well as becoming Welfare Officer and assisting both the Librarian, Arnie Diggle, and the Publicity Officer, Geoff Boulton. At the first rehearsal of the new year, work started in earnest on the pieces that will be sung at the Massed Male Voice concert at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on Saturday 25th February. A number of concerts are in the negotiation process for this coming year. The first one in place after Bridgewater Hall is the Lion's Annual Convention at Lancaster House Hotel, (adjacent to Lancaster University) on Sunday 4th March We are pleased that Robert Krug, who joined the choir as Accompanist last September, is available for the current year. Robert is a pupil at Ripley St. Thomas School, Lancaster. Another pleasant occasion was in September of last year when Suzie Reynolds, of Leighton Hall, accepted our invitation to become the Executive President of the Choir. Her zest for life is infectious. We were very pleased to make a return visit to the Hall last November. The Choir performed over thirty different pieces during the the course of last year, not only the well-established favourites, but classical and modern pieces also. One example is a new arrangement of Mozart's 'Ave Verum Corpus' which is exclusive to our Choir, with another being a Male Voice setting of the anthem 'The Greatset of These is Love', which is a composition by our Patron, Lady Shuttleworth. Beside visiting many of the usual venues, we performed at a number of new ones. Instances being The Grand Theatre in Lancaster, The Winter Gardens in Morecambe, St. Oswald's Parish Church in Warton. We were fortunate to enrol five new singing members and a new accompanist during the year, and we look forward in this year with renewed anticipation. Meanwhile we look forward the events booked so far this year, In the meantime, the Choir is still actively looking for new members in all sections.
